Complex 34

Standing on the shores of human space exploration.

16 notes

I cannot explain how close we got to both 39 A&B.  I’ll post more later, but seriously…tour was worth it. Yes I enjoyed the VAB. Yes I saw Endeavor up close (really close). But being this close to these pads was…transforming. It was from here, that exact spot that the only men in the history of humankind left Earth bound for another planet. To put it simply, we strap people to fire and make them fly higher, faster and further than anyone ever imagined possible.
I cannot put into words what I felt there. Except for the rotating service structure from the shuttle program, there wasn’t anything special to see (not that the pad itself isn’t special). But it was HERE. Just a tiny fraction of a percentage of land when compared to the whole of Earth. It was HERE (or across the way, which we also visited). That spot. The moon. Hubble. Skylab. Columbia. Challenger. Everything since Apollo 7. This is where our species performed its greatest feat.
There are no words. Just no words.
